"My dad said that if I study architecture, I'll marry an architect and be an architect's wife." But I can't be an architect's wife ... And I'm not even sure I can be anybody’s wife. (laughter)"

Eva Jiřičná in an interview for Lidové noviny, 6.4.2017

What Eva Jiřičná describes humorously does not only define dimension of the creative ego, but also aspects pf partnership and family responsibilities that are very difficult to reconcile in lives of women architects. According to a survey conducted by Women in Architecture in 2015, 87% of respondents (both men and women) consider children to be disadvantage in the profession. Architectural offices and their operations are not designed to reconcile parenting and care, and only few of them offer possibilities of part time jobs or flexible hours. At the same time, motherhood is not the only aspect that can shape and influence the career of female architects. The huge body of work compiled by Eva Jiřičná was not possible only due to her extraordinary talent, business skills and life in one of the world's fastest megacities, but also due to a lifestyle that allowed her to put all her energy into work.

WPS Prague in cooperation with DOX Center for Contemporary Art invites you to a discussion about working conditions and success of Czech women architects. Feminine element is part of side program to a summary exhibition of the prominent Czech architect Eva Jiřičná.
